FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program

1.     What is the Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program? The Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program is comprised of a series of training modules that will initially consist of six modules and comprehension questions for each module. Individuals are required to complete each of the required modules and comprehension questions. The training software automatically allows the user to advance to another module and will allow the training completion certificate to be printed (at the user’s computer) once the training is completed.

2.      How much time will I have to spend on the Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program? The training should take the average user between four and six hours to complete. The training program has a built in timing mechanism which will not allow the user to advance to another module before spending 45 minute to one hour on their current module. Note: This does not mean eight consecutive hours. The individual user may sign-on and log-off the training program as often as they wish. Upon completion of all modules, the user will be allowed to print their own Certificate of Completion training certificate. Course completion information is automatically sent to the Charitable Bingo licensing records and computer database.

3.      Can a group take the training together? No, each user must create and use their own user ID and log-on password. The training database will only issue a certificate in the name of the single user.

4.       I don’t know how to use a computer. I don’t have an e-mail address.  If you will be serving your organization as the Bingo Chairperson, it is highly recommended that you have basic computer skills and an e-mail address, or you have someone in your organization that you can rely on that does! The Charitable Bingo Division often communicates with licensees via e-mail because it is fast and efficient. If you don’t have any access to a computer or any computer skills, look at the on-site or physical-site Bingo Chairperson training course dates and locations.

5.      I can’t sit in front of a computer for 5 to 8 hours! The average user should be able to complete the entire Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program in no more than 6 hours. The average module should take no more than 45 minutes to complete. The program is completely self-paced; the user can login and logout as they wish. The system will monitor the amount of time spent in each module. It is envisioned that individuals might complete one or two modules a day and spread the training over a week or more.

6.       I have been in bingo for 10 years; am I going to learn anything new? Absolutely! There are tremendous changes on-going in bingo, such as new quarterly reports, new bingo bank account limits and new charitable distribution rules, as you will see. If you have previously attended an on-site Bingo Chairperson Training Program, you will find that the new modules are more comprehensive and detailed.

7.       Is there a limit on the number individuals per organization that will be allowed to take the online training? No! We encourage multiple individuals per organization to take and complete the online training course. The more trained individuals within an organization means the Bingo Chairperson has some trained help and that the organization is less likely to have situations where they are found to be non-compliant with the Bingo Enabling Act (Act) and Charitable Bingo Administrative Rules (Rules).

8.     Do I need copies of the Bingo Enabling Act and Charitable Bingo Administrative Rules while taking the training? No, there is no requirement to have the Act or Rules available while during the training. If you would like to refer to the Act or Rules, they are available on our Web site.

9.      Will the on-site Bingo Chairperson Training Programs continue to be offered? Yes, but fewer will be offered. It is anticipated that only two physical-site courses will be offered per bingo audit region per year. There are five bingo audit regions, so there could be only a dozen or less physical-site courses offered.

10. Is there a difference between the course content for an on-site training program and the online version? No, the course content of the two programs will be identical.

11.  If this training is required for Bingo Chairpersons, how do we train our workers and operators? Very Good Question! Thanks for asking!    In the future, we will place other “Voluntary Reference Modules”---that are longer and more detailed, as training tools.

12.  How will the Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program work? Individuals interested in taking the Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program will:

·          Access the charitable bingo website
·          Read the training program FAQs s so they know how the training program will work.
·          Create your new training account (Using your e-mail address and a password)
.     Select and view each of the required training modules
·          Complete the comprehensive quiz for each module.
·          Print their own Certificate of Completion for the Bingo Training Requirement which is good for two years from date of completion.

13.  What computer equipment do I have to have? You must have a computer, monitor, mouse, and internet access. Speakers or headphones are optional to be able to hear the audio portion. A printer must be available to print the Certificate of Completion.

14.  I only have dial-up internet (56kps) access, is that a problem? No, it may take a little longer to access the modules, but you should not have any problems.

15.  We don’t have internet access; can you send us a CD-ROM of the Online Bingo Chairperson Training Program? No, the modules will be subject to frequent revision to ensure they are current with the multitude of rapid changes in bingo. If you do not have internet access, most libraries have computers (with internet access) available. If you cannot find a computer with internet access, there will be on-site Bingo Chairperson Training Programs available.

16.  How do the modules work? Each module will consists of approximately 45 to 60 slides, and will include written speaker notes and a recorded audio portion. Note: The written notes and the audio portion of each slide will be identical; the user has the option of viewing the slide and the written notes, or viewing the slide and listening to the audio.

17.  What are the comprehension questions? Is it a test” Why is the test necessary? What happens if I fail the test? It is not a test and there is no “passing score or failing the test”. They are a few questions designed to see if you understood the salient points of the training. You must answer the questions---if you select the wrong answer, the system will alert you to a right or wrong answer.

18.  Can I share answers on the comprehension question? What is the point? The comprehension questions are not graded and not a test---they are only to facilitate your learning.

19.  Can an Operator or Worker take the Bingo Chairperson training? Of course! There is no limit as to who may take the training and it will help the organization if several individuals are trained.

20.  Can we use something in the on-line training modules as a defense during an audit?  No, we have tried our best to make the training modules accurate and helpful, nothing in the modules may be used to contravene the Bingo Enabling Act or the Charitable Bingo Administrative Rules.

21.  Who can I call for help on the modules? Call the Charitable Bingo Operations Division at 1-800-246-4677 or e-mail the staff at bingo.services@lottery.state.tx.us . We will have staff experienced with the modules to assist you. We encourage module users to contact us with recommendations to make the course and content better!
