TXDL_AgeVerification

Verify Age at Lottery Vending Machine (LVM)

No data from the ID is collected or stored. Scanning an ID is for age verification only.

  • Use the same scanner for checking lottery tickets.
  • Hold ID horizontally below the scanner, barcode facing up.
  • Scan long barcode on back of driver’s license or ID.
  • Move ID around until a beep confirms the barcode was read.
  • Difficulty scanning? Cover the smaller UPC barcode and move the ID closer or away from scanner.

Purchase Tickets

  • After age verification, scan prize winning ticket(s) up to $100 or insert the exact dollar amount up to $100. LVMs DO NOT GIVE CHANGE.
  • Only U.S. bills accepted: $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.
  • $100 maximum credits per transaction, including redeemed prizes.
  • Select game(s). If preferred game is not available, select another scratch ticket or draw game. NO CHANGE GIVEN.
  • Take your ticket(s). Validated tickets that were redeemed for purchase should be torn in half and discarded.

Did You Win?

  • The winning status of tickets can be checked without age verification by scanning the ticket barcode. You will have the option to redeem prizes up to $100 at the LVM (after age verification) or select NO and take ticket to a Texas Lottery licensed retailer or claim center.
  • Prizes of $600 - $5,000 may be redeemed using the Texas Lottery App.

How to find a Lottery Vending Machine

  • Use the Texas Lottery® App Retailer Locator and select “YES” for Self-Service Only.

Why Won’t Your ID Scan?

  • Damaged/scratched barcodes
  • Expired driver’s license
  • Older versions of Texas IDs and some out-of-state IDs may not have the required PDF417 barcode administered by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.
  • Some other forms of identification may not scan or be able to verify age.
  • Ask retailer for assistance or purchase games at the counter if the ID will not scan.
